Ways to Save Some Money on Conference Attendance

We are very conscious of the tight budgets that everyone is experiencing and have worked to keep conference expenses down while increasing value.
- New beginning and ending times: The conference will begin at midday on Wednesday and end Friday evening, eliminating the need for a Saturday stay-over for those who can fly home on Friday evening.
- Most meals are included: Dinner on Wednesday evening and Friday evening are included in your registration fees as well as Thursday and Friday breakfasts and lunches.
- Be a presenter. Many colleges are still supporting those who will be presenting at conferences. In addition, as a confirmed presenter, you will receive a $50 discount on your registration.
- Discounts are also available for early registrants, graduate students (with valid ID) and retirees. You may also register four people from one institution and pay for three. Please register all four at the same time, if you can, for ease of registration.
- Apply for a scholarship: Regional scholarships are available as well as two new practitioner scholarships. Please apply directly to your regional Vice President. Also the Founder’s Scholarship is another possibility. See another section of this website for more details.
- Check alternative ways of travel to Vancouver. Perhaps flying to Seattle and traveling to Vancouver by rental car, bus or Amtrak might be the way to go. Watch the website in spring for other travel assistance we are working on.
- Use the rapid rail service from the Vancouver airport to near the hotel for only $3.75!Share a room.
- Room rates are cheaper when a room is shared with up to 3 others. Consider sharing with someone from your college, your region or seek a roommate from among the NCSPOD group on LinkedIn.
- Book your airfare with our special travel partner, Vancouver-based Uniglobe Vision Travel, one of the largest independent travel management companies in BC.
Uniglobe will provide:
- Unbiased expert travel advice including lowest guaranteed air fares. Their technology searches over 30 airline websites as well as their own special negotiated air contracts to ensure the best value for you.
- Negotiated conference Air Canada airfare contracts. Conference participants can save from 10 to 30% on most flights booked through Uniglobe Vision Travel.
- Green Flight" carbon offset program for flights.
While not a money-saving strategy per se, consider combining the conference with a little rest and relaxation. The hotel group rate is available up to three days pre- and post conference, subject to availability. We will offer special optional excursions on Saturday after the conference to make the most of your trip to Vancouver plus a special excursion will be available during the conference as well. Excursions can include family members and guests. More details about all excursions will be available in the spring once we have finalized the pricing and arrangements.
